Dr-Dennis-Cummins-Have-P

I woke up early (Freaking 5:15 AM early!!!!) with an idea in my head that would not let me go back to sleep. I wanted to write something for my upcoming training in September. I threw on some shorts and a shirt, made some coffee and headed outside with my laptop. I thought would it be awesome to get my ideas down while enjoying some coffee and watching the birds at the feeders.

I was having some major writers block until about 45 minutes and 2 1/2 cups of coffee later when I realized something…

I had to “P”

And then it all came flooding in so to speak.

Over the last 10 years I have had almost 6,000 hours of stage time. In that time I have taught over 2,000 folks about training and every time I teach, I always get the same question:

Dr. Dennis, what’s the most important thing about being successful or speaking in front of a group?

The answer is simple:

Before you start….. make sure you have a good “P”

NOOOOOOO, Not that kind of pee… I mean the letter “P.” Or to be more accurate, I think there are 6 “P”s of Success that are essential for everyone to have in order to create amazing results in life (especially if you are a speaker, trainer, or entrepreneur).

So here they are:

6 “P”s of Success

  1. Passion

Passion basically boils down to doing what you love. What is it in your life that will wake your butt out of bed at 5:15 AM with a smile on your face because you’re excited about the idea you just had? I believe that to be successful and happy you have to love what you do. It is passion that keeps you going when times get tough. It is passion that allows you to persevere through obstacles and challenges. And it is passion that gets your heart beating faster with the joy of anticipation and excitement for the coming day. Passion is energizing, passion is fun, and most importantly, Passion is contagious.

If you are passionate about what it you do right now….. FANTASTIC!!!!

If you are not, here is my advice… Take some time and figure out what it is that “lights your fire,” figure out what it is that excites you and can’t be held back and then make it a part of your life.

In my experience many people live a life of “settling”. Their favorite expression is “Good Enough”. “Good Enough” should never be good enough for you anymore. Passion leads to excellence.

For speakers, trainers and entrepreneurs, Passion is way more important than polish. If you are passionate about what you are teaching it won’t matter nearly as much how you deliver the information. Don’t get me wrong. I think you should be amazing at delivery as well, but given the choice between a speaker with polish or a speaker with Passion. Passion wins every time in my book.

I’d love to know what you think:
